Give up Anxiety by Receiving the Peace of God
Philippians 4:6-7 NKJV
“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the Peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
Devotional
One of definitions of being anxious is to be nervous or worried about something with an uncertain outcome. When you think about it for a moment there really isn’t too much in life that is guaranteed.
Everyday life seems to be set up in a way that it would seem almost unusual if we weren’t anxious about something most of the time. Yet in Philippians we see Paul exhorting the believers with an almost impossible notion… Be anxious for nothing!!
The good news is that Paul doesn’t just leave the believers with an outrageous statement and say good luck, He invites them to enter into a different way of living by placing their trust in someone who is more certain than the uncertainty of their lives. God!!!
Rather than anchoring our hopes in uncertain outcomes we can secure our hearts, minds and emotions on the security of God’s love, character and care. When we do Paul says that God’s peace gets given to us! What a much better way to live…
Reflection
We all like to be in some level of control across the areas of our daily lives; however, the reality is that we are in control of much less than we think. In his letter, Paul told the saints to be anxious for nothing; he went on to say that they would be able to do this by embracing a pattern of prayer, thankfulness & seeking God. He said that a gift from God called His peace would be given to them & it would cause their hearts & minds to be free from anxiousness.
Daily Practice
Each day take a few moments to bring to God anything in prayer that you are concerned about, begin to thank Him for His peace overwhelming your mind & heart over these things.
