At HopeUC, community is our heartbeat and that is why we are excited about our first Serve Weekend. This is where our HopeUC Family will be investing in the lives of others by coming together to serve those in our community. Pastor Justin said, “No matter where you’re at or what you do, there’s an opportunity in this for you!”
There are opportunities for you to serve in person or at home. You can serve alone or bring your friends or family. You can sign up for below and an email will be sent to you with all the information you will need.
FOOTHILL UNITY CENTER
Who we are serving: Foothill Unity Center is providing access/opportunities and removing barriers for the low-income and working poor, providing a safety net of services to the disadvantaged to prevent homelessness and supporting the underserved homeless population. Due to current restrictions, all volunteers must be at least 18 years of age.
What we will be doing: We will be sorting and organizing food and delivering it directly to the people that are in need.
When and where: Friday, 3/26/21 at 9am-11:30am and 2pm-4:30pm in Monrovia
TRAIL CLEAN UP
Who we are serving: We will be picking up trash at Millard Canyon Falls, located in the Angeles National Forest.
. During this pandemic, parks and trails may need more care and cleaning so together as friends and family we can help make an impact.
What we will be doing: This is family friendly; picking up trash from trail
When and where: Saturday, 3/27/21 at 9 am in Altadena
LOVE OUR CITY
Who we are serving: We will be loving and serving those that love and serve our community everyday, even throughout this pandemic. To show our love and appreciation, will be delivering signs and desserts to just remind them that we appreciate all that they do.
What we will be doing: This is family friendly; dropping off desserts and signs to business and essential workers.
When and where: Saturday, 3/27/21 at 1pm in Monrovia
UNION RESCUE MISSION
Who we are serving: URM is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that was established in 1891. They are committed to life-transforming ministry through the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ by demonstrating, respect, relationships, redemption and restoration. Guests are welcomed in, provided a place where they can feel safe and cared for, given a meal and bed, but importantly offering hope and healing.
What we will be doing (there are two options)
Supporting the URM Thrift Store
- Working in the warehouse helping us sort through clothing, hanging and arranging clothing and various warehouse tasks.
- Cleaning the windows and wiping down clothing racks
When and where: Friday, 3/26/21 9am-2pm Covina and Whittier
Putting together Hygiene Kits for people experiencing homelessness
- When it comes to providing help to the guests at the URM, hygiene kits are something that the URM is always looking for in donations. A list of the needed items will be sent via email.
When and where: Anytime, Anyplace
Drop off: Sunday, 3/28/21 from 10am to 2:30pm
DREAM CENTER
Who we are serving:
The Dream Center serves as a resource center focused on providing support to those affected by homelessness, hunger, and the lack of education through residential and community outreach programs.
What we will be doing: Collecting diapers and wipes for families in need
When and where: Anytime, Anyplace
Drop off: Sunday 3/28/21 from 10am to 2:30pm
LOVE OUR ELDERS
Who we are serving:
Love Our Elders is supporting our elders during this critical effort to fight loneliness. Physical isolation is important for public health right now, but our elders deserve to feel supported, too. You can play a part by writing a handwritten letter today to support what we do.
What we will be doing: Writing letters to elderly people
